How to Calculate 1/4 and 1/3 Negative Marking

Hello and welcome to MPSC Material Website and today in this post we will discuss about negative marking calculation in different types of exams. and here our focus will be on MPSC Exam.

How to calculate negative marking

So First Let’s talks about MPSC Exams.

MPSC Marking System is different for lots of exams. So you may have question is that “how to calculate negative marking in MPSC?” So you will get my question is “are you talking about which mpsc exam? Is it MPSC Rajyaseva Exam? OR is it ASO-STI-PSI Exam? OR is it CSAT Paper of Rajyseva Exam? OR any other exams like engineering exam or agriculture exam or forest exam?”

Now you will answer “Its MPSC Rajyaseva Exam”

Then I will answer “it has 1/3 negative marking scheme” So, How I know that Rajyaseva exam has 1/3 Negative marking Scheme? Because I know it… ok?

That’s the correct answer because I know the MPSC Rajyaseva exam. But what about unknown exam?

Let’s say exam name is RBI Assistant exam. And suppose that I don’t know about this exam even I know about it … Ok?

Then I will ask “Do you have paper of 100 marks? OR each question is for what mark? ”

Then you will say “its 100 marks paper with 1 mark for each question…”

Then answer will be “it has ¼ negative marking scheme”

So how I know 1/3 negative marking and ¼ negative marking?

Answer is “ if the each question is for 2 marks or 2.5 marks then there will be 1/3 negative marking scheme and if the each question of paper is for  1 mark then there will be ¼ negative marking scheme  ”

Now you will think that “you have wasted my time for simple logic…” then sorry for that. Now you will get answers of each and every following questions.

So here are your questions about MPSC exam negative marking calculation.

  • How to calculate MPSC pre marks?
  • How to calculate prelims score?
  • How to calculate negative marking in MPSC?
  • How to calculate MPSC marks?
  • What is MPSC marks system?
  • What is negative marking in MPSC?
  • What is MPSC marking system?
  • What is MPSC negative marking?
  • What is MPSC negative marking system?

That’s why I have explained it in simple way, now this is incomplete without calculation and explanation of each negative marking scheme. And this will be applicable for each and every exam but before that you must know the official notification about negative marking for that exam.  I am confident about MPSC Rajyaseva Exam negative marking scheme as well ASO-STI-PSI exam negative marking scheme.

So let’s get started…

Here we will discuss all about negative marking calculation and different types of negative marking calculation in different types of exams before that you must know the main core of negative marking calculation.

So there are different types of exams. And negative marking calculation is also different for each and every examination.

Basically there are two types of negative marking systems in various exams. in which one is 1/3 negative marking scheme and another one is ¼ negative marking scheme. And we have one other mpsc negative marking in csat paper. In csat paper of mpsc Rajyaseva exam we have 75 questions for negative marking calculation and 5 questions are exempted from negative marking calculations because they are decision making questions.

Here we will see what is 1/3 negative marking means and then we will see what is ¼ negative marking means in MPSC exams and other exams.

1/3 negative marking means

Lots of people they don’t know that what is 1/3 negative marking means so for those “1/3 negative marking means if you have question of 2 marks and you failed to answer it correctly then you will get penalty for that question and penalty will be 0.33% marks allotted for that question will be deducted from your total correct marks”

To understand 1/3 negative marking we will see example, before that you must know that your calculation of marks should be different than traditional.

So, How to calculate 1/3 negative marking in any exam?

Basically if you have questions for 2 marks or 2.5 marks then you will have 1/3 negative marking scheme. So in 1/3 negative marking scheme your 1/3 marks will be cut for each wrong answer here 1/3 marks cut means 33% marks of that question. So if your question is of 2 marks then  1/3 marks cut means 0.66 marks will be cut from 2 marks it is called 1/3 negative marking or 1/3 marks cut from 2 marks of questions.

Before that you have to count the correct answers separately and wrong answers separately. And ignore the questions which are not attempted by you. Ok?

For e.g.

Now here we will see how to calculate 1/3 negative marking? So, if you have 1/3 negative marking in your paper then see the calculation of 1/3 negative marking below:

Suppose, you have paper of 200 marks and each question is for 2 marks and your correct answers are 75 and wrong answers are 25. So here how to calculate 1/3 negative marking for these marks?

So we have,

75 Correct answers and 25 wrong answers mean you have attempted all the questions.

75 Corrects answers = 75 * 2 = 150 Marks

25 Wrong Answers = 25 *0.66 = 16.5 Marks

So now here comes how to calculate marks with negative marking? So here we will deduct the 16.5 Marks from 150 Marks because we got 150 correct marks.

Your total marks after 1/3 negative marking calculation are,

So here is answer of how to calculate marks with negative marking?

Your Marks = (150 marks for Correct answers)-(16.5 Marks for Wrong answers)

= 133.5 Marks

So, 133.5 Marks are Your Total marks after calculating marks with negative marketing.

1/4 negative marking means

Lots of people they don’t know that what is 1/4 negative marking means so for those “1/4 negative marking means if you have question of 1 mark and you failed to answer it correctly then you will get penalty for that question and penalty will be 0.25 marks for 1 mark question”

To understand 1/4 negative marking we will see example, before that you must know that your calculation of marks should be different than traditional.

So, How to calculate 1/4 negative marking in any exam?

Basically if you have questions for 1 mark then you will have 1/4 negative marking scheme. So in 1/4 negative marking scheme your 1/4 marks will be cut for each wrong answer here 1/4 marks cut means 25% marks of that question. So if your question is of 1 mark then 1/4 marks cut means 0.25 marks will be cut from 1 mark  it is called 1/4 negative marking or 1/4 marks cut from 1 mark of question.

Before that you have to count the correct answers separately and wrong answers separately. And ignore the questions which are not attempted by you. Ok?

For e.g.

Now here we will see how to calculate 1/4 negative marking? So, if you have 1/4 negative marking in your paper then see the calculation of 1/4 negative marking below:

Suppose, you have paper of 100 marks and each question is for 1 mark and your correct answers are 75 and wrong answers are 25. So here how to calculate 1/4 negative marking for these marks?

So we have,

75 Correct answers and 25 wrong answers mean you have attempted all the questions.

75 Corrects answers = 75 *1 = 75 Marks

25 Wrong Answers = 25 *0.25 = 6.25 Marks

So now here comes how to calculate marks with negative marking? So here we will deduct the 6.25 Marks from 75 Marks because we got 75 correct answers and one question is for 1 mark.

Your total marks after 1/4 negative marking calculation are,

So here is answer of how to calculate marks with negative marking?

Your Marks = (75 marks for Correct answers)-(6.25 Marks for Wrong answers)

= 68.75 Marks

So, 68.75 Marks are Your Total marks after calculating marks with negative marketing.

1/3 negative marking with no negative marking for some questions

Now here is one more type of negative marking which is no negative marking for decision making questions, in which the 5 questions are not included in the negative marking and in this type of paper each question is of 2.5 marks. So the calculation will be same

Let’s do 1/3 negative marking calculation for CSAT paper which is of 80 questions and 200 marks.

Suppose your correct answers are 60 which means 150 marks and wrong answer are 15 which means 12.375 marks of wrong answers. And finally you got 3 questions right with 2.5 marks and 2 questions wrong with 0 marks.

What we have,

Correct Marks = 150 Marks

Wrong Answers Marks = 12.375 Marks

And we have Decision making marks too

Correct marks of Decision Making = 2.5 * 3(3 right answers with 2.5 marks that’s way 3) = 7.5

In CAST Decision making we have Different marks for each option we have 0 marks for wrong and 2.5 marks are for 100% correct choice. And we have 1 mark and 1.5 marks for other 2 options.

Wrong Answers Marks for Decision Making = 2 * 0(No negative Marking for CSAT Decision Making)=0 Marks

Your total marks after 1/3 negative marking calculation with CSAT are,

So here is answer of how to calculate marks with negative marking for CSAT Paper?

Your Marks = (150 marks for Correct answers)-(12.375 Marks for 15 Wrong answers)

= 137.625 Marks

So, 137.625 Marks are your marks after calculating marks with negative marketing.

Now to get total marks we will add 7.5 marks of Decision making

So after doing all things

Your Total Marks = 137.625 Marks + 7.5 Marks of Decision Making.

Your Total Marks = 145.125 Marks for CSAT Paper.
